How to Catch a Penguin: a.k.a. Journal-Keeping 101
One of James’s passions is journal keeping and this is a presentation for anyone involved in travel or expeditionary learning about the hows and whys of processing experience. Making the distinction between public and personal knowledge, and drawing from his own story as a kid who was uninspired by school, James argues in this talk that the most important of these is personal knowledge and the centrality of active and purposeful reflection—journal keeping—in creating such knowledge. This inspiring message has motivated thousands of students throughout his writing and teaching career, particularly with Students on Ice.
