Management at 50 Strokes a Minute
The canoe is an enduring symbol of many things in Canada including how to run a successful business. Sir George Simpson, Governor of the Hudson’s Bay Company 1820-1850 took the helm of a nearly bankrupt company and turned it back to profitability through what might be called “Management at 50 Strokes a Minute.” Since then, lessons of Sir George and his praetorian band of voyageurs have been written into effective strategies for business success. Drawing on personal experience both as a paddler and as CEO of The Canadian Canoe Museum, as well as on Hibbard, Hibbard and Stockman’s “Canoe Theory” James presents a refreshingly different take on time-tested routes to business success.
