The Arch of Experience: Expeditionary Learning
One of the most often quoted poems in the annals of expeditionary learning is Alfred Lord Tennyson’s Ulysses wherein an old sailor is looking back on his life and says “All experience is an arch wherethro’ gleams that untravell’d world whose margin fades forever and forever when I move.” This presentation, designed for both leaders and participants in adventure learning, looks through that arch at the models, processes, theories and philosophies that guide expeditionary learning. What powers this presentation and gives it a resounding ring of authenticity is James’s passion for experiential learning, expeditionary learning in particular, and his long experience as an outdoor educator and expedition leader that gives him a treasure trove of stories and examples from which to draw.
